Liguria is a coastal region of north-western Italy enclosed between the Alps and Apennines and the Mediterranean sea. A spectacular region of contrasts and ruggedness, where mountains and cliffs seem to rise directly out of the sea. The region has beautiful beaches, picturesque little towns and great food. Genoa, a major Mediterranean port, is the regional capital.
