Abruzzo is "the Region of Parks". A region of wild, unspoilt natural beauty with three national parks, a regional park and dozens of protected nature reserves amounting to a good 30% of the region's land surface.

There are many attractive seaside resorts along the Adriatic coast, the most outstanding being Pescara, birthplace of the poet Gabriele D'Annunzio, whose home now houses a small, picturesque museum.
